The roundtable event in the Chinese capital gives world leaders the opportunity to exchange views on Belt and Road cooperation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday called for concerted and coordinated efforts and pledged shared prosperity and common community for the Belt and Road Construction.
Xi made the remarks while addressing a welcome banquet for state leaders and government and international organization officials attending the Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation in Beijing.
At the banquet, Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and people and his wife, and also in his own name, extended warm and cordial welcome to all the attendees to the Beijing forum.
Quoting ancient Chinese saints that “oceans start with drops of water and universe forms with grains of sand,” Xi said that, starting as a drop of water and a grain of sand, Beijing has grown into its current being of internationalized megacity and is still growing.
“This growth reveals a shred of truth to us: we human beings are like those drops and grains just sharing a common space of being and sharing a common destiny of being. As such, the human history is a progress made by various nationalities and cultures amid convergence and interaction of various beings,” said Xi.
The Chinese host said that all should carry forward the spirit of the ancient Silk Road and gather to discuss the Belt and Road construction, which follows the historical trend and forges the right path for continuing forward into the future.
“Belt and Road Construction carries our aspiration for inter-civilization communication. It keeps playing the role of civilization interlocutors who promote mutual learning and benefiting, to result in a brighter and more colorful civilization of humanity,” said Xi.
“Belt and Road Construction carries our anticipation to peace and tranquility. It brings closer countries whose peoples can depend on mutual learning and assisting, on mutual respect and common trust, in their joint efforts to construct a shared planet of harmony and a common world of peace,” said Xi.
He said that Belt and Road Construction carries the pursuit for common development.
“It helps with breaking through the developmental bottlenecks and with narrowing down the developmental gaps, so as to enable us all to share the fruition of development, in our community of development in which we stand up against no matter what,” said Xi, adding that it also carries the expectation of good and happy lives.
“What we have taken along is a path full of hopes. I believe we will make it to our beautiful end so long as we all walk along the same direction, with interlinked minds, with no back-step or standstill. Like this, we can count on the day when all roads connect to lead up to shared prosperity and common community. I also believe, our undertaking will stand the tests of all times and will benefit all our offspring in future, exactly as the ancient Silk Road has done for us,” said Xi.
He said that a leaders’ round-table summit alongside the Yanqi Lake will be held on Monday for details of grand Belt and Road Construction cooperation.
A total of 29 foreign heads of state and government, and hundreds of dignitaries from around the world are attending the forum from May 14 to 15.
